Exploring Blockchains: Delegated Proof Of Stake (DPoS) protocol

2017-04-02 | Sergey Bushnyak
Characteristics Description
Ledger type Public / Private
Performace High
Completness Probabilistic
Examples Cardano, EOS, BitShares
Rationale

DPoS allows you to create blocks at high speed and process a greater number of transactions per second, compared to other consensus algorithms, by reducing the number of validators, compared to PoS.

During the voting, coin holders choose transaction validators that will form the blocks. The weight of each vote is determined by the sum of the assets of the voter. Coin holders can vote for candidates at any time. This determines the high resilience of the network: if the majority of performers fail, the community will immediately vote to replace them.

The generation of new blocks occurs every 1-2 seconds or within an epoch.
